Sande
has coached and directed many notable actors for film,
Broadway and television including Anthony Rapp (A BEAUTIFUL MIND,
RENT), Matthew Modine for his acclaimed role in FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON,
Daphne Rubin Vega was nominated for a Tony Award for her starring
Broadway role as Anna in the Nobel Prize-winning play, ANNA IN THE
TROPICS. She has worked with soap star Ty Treadway and NYPD BLUE's
Sharon Lawrence, DEADWOOD's William Sanderson, Broadway's Casey
Nicholaw, and RENT's Adam Pascal. Her many crossovers (from supermodels
to actors) include Michelle Hicks (co-star THE SHIELD), Shalom Harlow
and Jicky Schnee. Her coaching has extended to the world of rap music
with Method Man.
Ms.
Shurin authored the book TRANSFORMATIONAL ACTING A Step Beyond
(Limelight Editions). This book establishes her innovative acting
technique Transformational Acting, the only booked technique that uses
current emotions, not relying on past emotions or sense memory of any
kind. She currently teaches this acting technique at her main location
in New York City as well as her satellite retreat in Woodstock, NY
Sande
Shurin directed the film TRUE LOVE by Bruce Levy which made its
way to the Woodstock
Film Festival & The Miami Short film Festival as well as the New
York Film & Video Festival and was picked up for international
distribution. Sande just completed directing the film MUSEUM SCANDALS and
for television directed the cable series WORKING ACTORS.
She has directed the Broadway show THE PRICE OF GENIUS by Betty Neustat.
She has also directed at many other New York venues: SADA starring Jay
Rodriguez (QUEER EYE..Fab Five) and Academy Award nominated Sylvia
Miles at her own Sande Shurin Theatre, THE INSECT COMEDY by the Capek
brothers starring William Sanderson (Deadwood) and Mike Tucci at
Central Arts Theatre, BEAUTIFUL by Leonard Melfi at Lincoln Centre
Festival, THE DOLPHIN DREAMER at The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM),
CABIN FEVER by Joan Schenker at WPA Theatre, ANNIVERSARY STORY by
Steven Schwab at ASPA Theatre, AND LAST WEEK IT WAS A MOUNTAIN a new
multimedia show created by Ms. Shurin at Playwright's Horizons and
SOPHOCLES at Theatre for the New City to name but a few. Her theatre
company Drifting Traffic were one of the five founding members of OOBA
when she was directing Leonard Melfi's new plays.
Cabaret
Theatre in New York has seen her directing the MAC nominated YOU ME AND
SAMMY D at Don't Tell Mamma Cabaret Theatre and she has been on tour
directing the renowned musical group Tripp Hanson and THE MANHATTAN
RHYTHM KINGS from New York to Italy.
Sande
Shurin was seen on OPRAH where cuts of the television show FAKING IT
were presented. In this episode of FAKING IT she coached a young
man to transform from a mechanic to become a New York cabaret drag
queen. In 2005 she appeared on UPN's AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL as a
celebrity acting coach with Taye Diggs. She currently has a new pilot
for E!, BODY DOUBLE.
Shurin
is acting coach to her student Robert Margolis' indie film THE
DEFINITION OF INSANITY, which has garnered many film festival awards
throughout the United States and Europe and is currently having its
theatrical release. Bought by Time Warner Cable Pay-per-view the film
features Peter Bogdanovich, Bruce Levy and many of Ms. Shurin's
students.
Ms
Shurin teaches and leads workshops internationally and has
lectured at such venues as Maymount College, Adelphi College and will
appear at CUNY this winter.
She has developed the BREAK-THRU Workshop - a powerful transformational
event that supports organizational leaders as well as actors and
business people of all kinds in personal and career breakthroughs.
Most
recently Sande Shurin was honored at LaMama ETC theater as one of the
originators of the off-off Broadway theater movement of the
1970's. LaMama is in the process of filming and documenting innovators
of theater for their archives. Also, Ms Shurin made her Carnegie
Hall debut directing Katia Paschou's operatic presentation. She is also
in pre-production for the feature film MY FAVORITE FELON by Jennifer
Wilcov.
